Zeidler Architects challenge Vancouver businesses to support Unicef’s Unite for Children Campaign

Zeidler Partnership Architects is challenging Vancouver’s business community to come out and support UNICEF’s 2nd Annual Unite with Art Auction and Gala that benefits children battling AIDS and works to halt the spread of the pandemic. The firm is calling on Vancouverites to step up and purchase tickets to the gala and bid on stunning works of art from top Canadian artists. Proceeds from the event are going directly to help stem the global AIDS pandemic through UNICEF’s Unite for Children, Unite against AIDS initiative.

Zeidler Architects is a national, founding sponsor for the event which combines fine art, fabulous food and top entertainment to bolster UNICEF Canada’s Unite for Children, Unite against AIDS campaign. UNICEF’s goal is to halt and begin to reverse the spread of the deadly disease by 2015 through efforts to expand health care services and prevention measures – particularly the transmission of HIV from mothers to their children. Proceeds from the Unite with Art Auction and Gala will benefit this campaign.

“The war against AIDS can seem unwinnable at times, but stopping the transmission of HIV from mothers to their children is very achievable,” said Stephen Carruthers, managing partner at Zeidler Partnership Architects. “There are simple steps that can be taken, with proper funding, to ensure a child is not born with a death sentence because their mother was infected. This is an opportunity for the business and arts community in Vancouver to step up and really help save children.”

The Unite with Art Auction and Gala was launched in June 2008 to raise financial support and bring awareness to UNICEF’s campaign. More than 350 of Vancouver’s leading art collectors responded, and raised $275,000 for the cause. The event is the brainchild of Julie Lee, Arthouse Gallery director and Unite with Art executive director, as well as Alison Lawton, chair of UNICEF Canada’s Unite for Children, Unite against AIDS campaign.

Unite for Children, Unite against AIDS is the largest campaign ever initiated to bring attention to the impact that HIV/AIDS has on children and youth.

A spectacular evening of art and advocacy, the gala will feature silent and live auction items. More than 90 donated works from acclaimed artists including Fred Herzog, Chris Jordan, Greg Girard, Angela Grossmann, Gabryel Harrison, Christian Nicolay, Joe Fafard, Annie Pootoogook, Brent Comber and David Wilson, among others, will be up for bid.

The event will also feature local designers including Obakki, Omer Arbel, LemonPark, Michael Gotziaman, John Fluevog, Kelly Deck, and Inform Interiors to name a few. The evening will include host bar, live entertainment, cuisine by the city’s best restaurants and a dessert reception

The gala takes place from 6:00pm until midnight on Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at the former Storyeum in Gastown located at 151 West Cordova Street, Vancouver, BC. Tickets are $150 and may be purchased online at www.unitewithart.com or by calling UNICEF at 604.874.3666 x8125.
