Ontario’s province-wide Wood Works Awards, spearheaded by the Canadian Wood Council, has selected its winners for 2003. The scheme is in its third year. Included are the Charles W. Stockey Centre for the Performing Arts (which includes the Bobby Orr Hall of Fame) in the wood design commercial category, designed by Keith Loffler Architect with ZAS Architects; the Toronto Military Family Resource and Child Care Centre in the Green by Design category, designed by Richard Doucette of Public Works and Government Services Canada; the Mississauga Community Centre in the Institutional category, designed by Donald Schmitt of Diamond and Schmitt Architects Inc.; the Bird Studies Canada Headquarters designed by Montgomery Sisam Architects in the Ontario wood products category; and Halsall Associates Limited, winning the Building for the Future Engineering Award for excellence in the wood products industry. Also winning were Walter Kuch of Kuch Stephenson Gibson Malo Architects and Engineer, the Building for the Future Architect Award; Weider Lodge designed jointly by Stone McQuire Vogt Architects and DCYSM Architecture and Design in the multi-unit category, and House #1 in Mulmur Hills by Ian MacDonald Architect Inc. in the residential design category.
