Winners of the 2013 Alberta Steel Design Awards of Excellence announced
The winners in six categories of the 2013 Alberta Steel Design Awards of Excellence were recently announced, and are being honoured by hundreds of engineers, architects, contractors, construction owners, and government and industry leaders who are gathered for the biggest celebration of steel design in North America.
The CISC Award celebration is held every other year to promote the structural steel industry within the Alberta region and across Canada. The awards recognize exceptional talent and ingenuity in steel design and the innovative use of steel in addressing a variety of construction challenges. This year’s outstanding winners embody the theme of the 2013 event: “Leading and Shaping Our Future.”
The 2013 awards drew 28 submissions representing a diverse range of innovative steel design and construction projects: from iconic bridges and buildings to LRT stations and environmental reclamation facilities. The winning designs represent the state of the art in architecture, engineering, fabrication and sustainability in the steel construction industry.

Edmonton Federal Building, Parkade and Centennial Plaza – Winner of the 2013 Building Communities Award. Architect Kasian Architecture Interior Design and Planning Ltd., CISC Fabricator Whitemud Ironworks Group Inc., Engineer Stantec Consulting Ltd., General Contractor: Clark Builders and Owner Alberta Infrastructure.
Peace Bridge – Winner of the 2013 Engineering Award and the 2013 Steel Edge Award. Architect Santiago Calatrava LLC, Engineer Santiago Calatrava LLC/Stantec Consulting Ltd., General Contractor Graham Infrastructure Ltd., CISC Erector Norfab Mfg. (1993) Inc. and Owner City of Calgary.
