The Canadian High School Design Competition is a national program open to high school students from across Canada, and offers secondary students a choice of different design challenges ranging from a sports accessory to a kitchen gadget. Overall, there were 330 entries from high school students in Ontario and from other parts of the country. The winners and honourable mentions are listed below, and will be on display at the Design Exchange in Toronto until Sunday, May 8th.
Education programs are critical to the DX in terms of nurturing the next generation of young people with a passion for design, whether as a field for future study or as a career path. By introducing young people to design at an early age, the DX provides students with such skills as team-building and creative problem-solving. Other DX Design Education programs include Summer Design day camps, "Connect" (a national program for post-secondary students), onsite tours and workshops and designers-in-the-classroom.
The National High School Competition program is generously sponsored by the Sears Young Futures program that supports after-hours programs for young people. Category sponsors include DW Product Development and Teknion Furniture.
