Winners of 2013 Prairie Wood Design Awards announced
Alberta Wood WORKS! has announced the award recipients for the 2013 Prairie Wood Design awards. Eight projects were selected from over 40 entries by an esteemed jury panel: David J. Bowick, Principal of Blackwell Structural Engineers; Brian Court, Associate at the Miller Hull Partnership, LLP; and Steve Raike, Associate Partner at Lake Flato Architects. Selections were based on considerations such as creativity, appropriate use of wood materials, ability to satisfy the client’s building and site requirements and the overall aesthetic appeal for the use and application of wood.
The winners are as follows:
In the Commercial & Institutional category, Grizzly Paw Brewery in Canmore, Alberta by Lloyd R McLean Architect with russell and russell design studios.
In the Municipal category, Edmonton Valley Zoo Arctic Shores Exhibit by Group2 Architecture Interior Design Ltd.
In the Recreational category, the Salvation Army, Barbara Mitchell Family Resource Centre in Winnipeg by Richard Prins Architect + Affinity Architecture.
In the Interior Wood Showcase category, the Mid-Century Canadiana Condo Renovation in Edmonton by Sheri Krug Designs.
In the Residential category, the Prairie Lake Retreat in St. Brieux, Saskatchewan by Neale Staniszkis Doll Adams Architects.
Three Jury’s Choice awards were given to: the Beverly Heights House in Edmonton by Manasc Isaac Architects; Fiskaoist in Gimli, Manitoba by work/shop; and Foxtail Café in Wasagaming, Manitoba by Peter Sampson Architecture Studio Inc.
The Engineer Wood Advocate recognized ISL Engineering and Land Services for Grizzly Paw Brewery.
