Thirteen projects representing the finest in architecture and design were honoured on Monday at the 2016 Vancouver Urban Design Awards.

“The creative and innovative projects honoured by this year’s Urban Design Awards all enhance Vancouver’s natural beauty,” said Mayor Gregor Robertson, “Great architecture and the design of our buildings and public spaces are integral to creating a livable city that’s admired locally and around the world.”

The awards, which are presented every other year since 2014, promote urban design awareness, its value in place-making and the positive contribution public-realm design makes to the lives of people. The awards also recognize and celebrate excellence in architecture Vancouver.

Winners were chosen in nine categories, along with special jury awards. They were selected by an independent jury, whose members were:

  • Jane Durante, founding member of Durante Kreuk Ltd.
  • Roger Hughes, architect, founding partner of HCMA Architecture + Design
  • Scott Romses, architect, principal of Romses Architects
  • Bill Pechet, principal owner and director of Pechet Studio.
