Urban Places, Public Spaces + Design of the City: Education as a Catalyst for Change
On May 31st, 2005, the University of Calgary’s Faculty of Environmental Design and External Relations is holding a one-day ideas symposium to explore and discuss ideas and solutions for the creation of a dynamic and innovative Calgary Urban Campus. Registration begins at 7:30am and the symposium runs from 8:30am to 4:30pm at the Stampede Park Roundup Centre.
Exposure to leading practitioners and best practices from across North America, as well as consideration of made-in-Calgary approaches, will help the University and its community partners move forward in creating an urban campus that will provide exception and powerful learning opportunities in the community, for the community and with the community.
Spanning design concepts, social issues, economic considerations and mixed-use possibilities, the ideas symposium will promote innovative ways of seeing and thinking about education. Goals and strategies for design excellence, enriching the urban core, and improving quality of life are essential.
This unique gathering of dynamic and diverse international, national and local community members will permit a consideration of how the University of Calgary can develop an urban campus that will catalyze development, foster partnerships, and improve the city.
