Join the Toronto Society of Architects (TSA) on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 to learn more about the recent and ongoing innovations in timber engineering. Short presentations by an expert panel will be followed by a lively discussion that critically examines the potential use of wood in mid- and high-rise construction. What are the economic benefits? What changes are necessary to the Building Code to facilitate the use of wood? Can the use of wood unlock the immense potential of a new mid-rise market throughout the Greater Toronto Area? What is the impact on construction schedules? Are there environmental benefits?
The event will be moderated by Richard Witt, OAA, MRAIC, LEED AP, Principal of Quadrangle Architects Ltd. and TSA Co-Chair. Panellists include: Steven Street, Technical Director of Wood Works; David Moses, P. Eng. Of Moses Structural Engineers Inc.; Marco VanderMaas, B.E.S., B.Arch, LEED AP BD+C, Design Director of Quadrangle Architects; and Paul Bedford, FCIP, RPP, former Chief Planner for the City of Toronto and current Sessional Lecturer in Urban & Regional Planning at the University of Toronto and Ryerson University.
