The Toronto Society of Architects (TSA) has launched its second annual Gingerbread City, an exhibit featuring 14 edible creations reflecting this year’s theme of “tastes like home”.
Submissions were received through an open call and include flavourful student residences, tasty Victorians, and freshly baked parks – inspired by both local Toronto architecture, as well as from cities far away. Behind these creations are architects, bakers, families, colleagues, and roommates from across the Greater Toronto region and beyond.
Born in 2020 as a community building event amongst Toronto’s architectural community, Gingerbread City includes both a virtual exhibit and in-person showcase at The Maker Bean Café, 1052 Bloor Street West, Toronto. The café features a selection of the submissions as a window display and throughout different spaces of the café.
The TSA Gingerbread City is also a fundraising event, with submitters and visitors encouraged to donate to support the Red Door Family Shelter, a local charity providing emergency shelter and support for women and children affected by domestic abuse, families experiencing a housing crisis, and refugee claimants.
