Toronto Society of Architects April Forum – The Saga of the Canadian Embassies
Marie Jose Therrien, author of the recently published book on Canadian embassies Au-del des frontiers: l’architecture des ambassades canadiannes, will discuss how these official architectural symbols of Canada abroad have been the subject of meticulous planning. Her talk, introduced by Sara Diamond, President of the Ontario College of Art and Design, will focus on the Department of Foreign Affairs’ successes, contradictions and missed opportunities.
The TSA Forum will be held at the Gladstone Hotel in Toronto on Tuesday, April 4th, 2006. The evening starts at 6:00pm with “The Saga of the Canadian Embassies” presentation scheduled for 7:00pm. A discussion follows on whether the iconography of Canada is being successfully expressed around the world. What about Canada’s log cabin in Turin? What should be proposed for Toronto’s World Expo 2015 bid? Come out and steer the discussion where it needs to be taken.
Upcoming forums in May and June will focus on urban activism in the City. The TSA forum is a regular gathering at the Gladstone Hotel for drinks and discussion by architects and by friends of architecture. The event is co-sponsored by the TSA with UrbanSpace.
