The Making of a New Regent Park: Challenges to Revitalization

How do you revitalize Canada’s largest and oldest social housing community without disenfranchising the 7,500 people of all ages and cultures who call it home? The Toronto Community Housing Corporation has a 12-year building and environmental strategy to replace the deteriorating buildings and poorly planned public spaces and facilities. It calls for a leading edge mixed income/mixed tenure community that will emphasize excellence in architectural, urban, and environmentally sustainable design ideas.

Learn about Toronto Community Housing’s plan and participate in the debate about managing expectations and real challenges around urban renewal. The event is part of IIDEX/Neocon Canada 2005 and is presented by the Toronto Society of Architects. It takes place on Thursday, September 22 from 11:30am-12:30pm at Toronto’s National Trade Centre. Moderated by Christopher McCormack, Chair of the Toronto Society of Architects, the Panel includes Derek Ballantyne, CEO, Toronto Community Housing, and Mark Guslits, Chief Development Officer, Toronto Community Housing.
