The Impact of Power Retailing on Toronto’s Regional Landscape
The purpose of the forum is to bring together new research and expert practitioners’ views on this important subject and so to generate discussion around future directions. Highlights of a new research report entitled “Places to Shop and Places to Grow: Power Retail, Consumer Travel Behaviour and Urban Growth Management in the Greater Toronto Area” will be presented by Ron Buliung, Assistant Professor in the Department of Geography at the University of Toronto at Mississauga, and Tony Hernandez, Director and Eaton Chair in Retailing at the Centre for the Study of Commercial Activity at Ryerson University.
The presentation will be followed by a panel discussion moderated by Leslie Woo, General Manager of Transportation, Policy & Planning at Metrolinx. Panellists include Douglas Annand, Partner of urbanMetrics Inc., Gordon Harris, President and CEO of SFU Community Trust, and Bryan Tuckey, Commissioner of Planning & Development, York Region.
The forum takes place on Wednesday, May 13, from 4:00 to 6:00pm at the Town Hall in Innis College. The event will be followed by a reception. All are welcome, but seating is limited. Please RSVP to citiescentre@utoronto.ca.
