The Human Landscape

Part of the month-long CONTACT Photography Festival taking place in Toronto this May, this exhibition by documentary photographer Ariel Estulin centres around the people of Nepal in their stunning native landscape. The images are particularly appropriate for the theme of this year’s Festival – Figure and Ground.

The faces and demeanor of the Nepalese people reflect lives lived in the shadow of the vast Himalayan Mountains – a lifestyle steeped in tradition, intimately connected to the land. The Human Landscape is an exhibition of documentary photographs of a people whose lives are shaped by the mountains around them. Despite their many challenges, a striking, clear-eyed joy shines through, showcasing the deep richness of these open-hearted people.

The show runs from April 29 to May 29, 2011 at MaRS in Toronto. The opening reception takes place on Wednesday, May 4th.
