This exhibition runs from February 12 to May 1, 2006 at New York’s Museum of Modern Art, and will feature approximately 45 architectural projects designed and/or built since 2000. The quality and innovation of these recent projects reflect a number of important developments, among them the ongoing liberalization of civil culture in democratic Spain, the economic and cultural growth of the nation within a unified European context, and the continued importance of cities and urban culture in Spanish identity. These factors have produced not only a strong native response from the architectural profession but also an environment that welcomes designers and ideas from elsewhere. More than a third of the projects presented have been authored by architects from other countries in Europe, Asia and the United States. The exhibition is organized by Terence Riley, Philip Johnson Chief Curator of Architecture and Design, the Museum of Modern Art.
