The CCA Raises $600,000 at its annual Celebration of Architecture Ball
The Canadian Centre for Architecture’s annual ball on 8 June was a great success, raising more than $600,000. Inspired by the current exhibition Sense of the City, the theme of the 2006 Celebration of Architecture Ball was an Urban Picnic Under the Stars. Welcomed by Phyllis Lambert, CCA Founding Director and Chair of the Board of Trustees, some 500 members of the arts and business communities expressed their enthusiasm and support of the CCA in an atmosphere of urban glamour and underground sensations.
The CCA Ball was an evening of surprising contrasts, where elegance met street, grass grew indoors, and underground art took centre stage. Guests enjoyed cocktails in the Shaughnessy House before heading to the CCA’s Baile Park for a feast of sensations. Sonia Benezra was host under the canopy, while urban artists created a live graffiti mural, break-dance crew 360 mpm kicked off the dancing, and guests continued into the night to the rhythms of DJ Bliss.
The 2006 CCA Ball was held under the patronage of honorary co-chairs, the Honorable E. Leo Kolber, Chairman of the Sandra and Leo Kolber Foundation, and Laurent Beaudoin, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Bombardier Inc.
Proceeds from the 2006 Celebration of Architecture Ball will benefit the development of CCA exhibitions and collections, and programs for children, students, scholars, and professionals.
