Table for 1200 tickets now on sale!

Table for 1200 event curators StorefrontMB and 5468796 Architecture have announced that public tickets for Table for 1200, a spectacular outdoor pop-up dinner, are now available for purchase through the Table for 1200 website at

The event will take place in Winnipeg on Saturday, May 31, 2014 from 7:00pm to 9:00pm.Part of a larger celebration of design [AFF], Table for 1200 will highlight Winnipeg’s emerging design scene by bringing together architecture, design and the culinary arts to create an evening of entertainment and stimulating conversation in an absolutely unique setting. At 1200 feet long, Table for 1200 will be a truly unforgettable outdoor dining experience that will attract both local and international media attention.

“The event will be a fun and exciting opportunity to engage in a public conversation about the value of architecture and related design disciplines. The event will take place in a prominent public location in downtown Winnipeg, to be announced one hour prior to the occasion,” said Sharon Ackerman, a member of the Board of Directors, StorefrontMB.

The event is being organized as part of Storefront MBs mandate to promote the value of the spatial design disciplines to the broader public and is the finale of 5468796 Architecture’s Table for 12, Canada’s 2013 Prix de Rome project, a series of dinners held in eight cities around the world that engaged in a meaningful dialogue about the importance of architectural culture. Consisting of 150 tables of eight, Table for 1200 will invite representatives from the city government, prominent institutions, arts organizations and citizens alike to take a seat at the table and join in on this discussion.

“The response to the event plans to date has been more than enthusiastic across the board and we have already sold out our quota for corporate tables,” says Johanna Hurme of 5468796 Architecture. “We are now looking forward to making the rest of the tickets available at a more affordable rate to the general public in order to make the event as accessible as possible.”

Meals will be provided by local chefs – spearheaded by the team from RAW:almond (Mandel Hitzer from Deer + Almond and Joe Kalturnyk from RAW Gallery) along with Ben Kramer from Diversity Food Services, who are planning a prairie-themed dinner. “We expect this non-profit event not only to be a real spectacle but also a great culinary experience. We are inviting all attendees to dress for a “Winnipeg White Out” in all white to provide a truly unique and magical visual dimension to the evening,” added Ms. Ackerman.

Logistically, each table will be set and managed by a Table Captain, a volunteer member of the design community or in the case of the corporate tables, a designated point person that will be responsible for popping up the table. “The Table Captains will also participate in a mini-design competition for the best table setting that will be juried on the spot,” says Hurme. “A total of $1,200 in prizes will be awarded to the winners.”
