SociPolis: Project for a City of the Future

From October 28 – January 31, the Architekturzentrum Wien (Old Hall) in Vienna hosts SociPolis, an exhibition focused on a new district proposed for Valencia. Initiated by the Spanish architect Vicente Guallart, the project is intended to be unveiled for the first time at the 2nd Valencia Biennal. This unique and new city zone arising on the periphery of Valencia is having an exemplary effect on ideas for the future of the city offering quality of life with a hybrid urban structure. Barrier-free residential zones for special target groups, workplaces, recreational facilities, urban infrastructure and allotments are being linked to one another in the form of a micro-city. Fulfilling the three prerequisites of enabling social interaction, the linking of architecture with nature and the integration of new information technology in the living space, 12 internationally active teams of architects have, based on Vicente Guallart’s master plan, formulated responses to the most pressing topics for current and future urban planning.

Participating teams include: Vicente Guallart with Abalos & Herreros, Madrid | Foreign Office Architects (Alejandro Zaera Polo and Farshid Moussavi), London | Actar Arquitectura (Manuel Gausa), Barcelona | Toyo Ito, Tokyo | Duncan Lewis, Angers | + BLOCK (Denis Brillet, Benoit Fillon and Pascal Riffaud), Nantes | Greg Lynn Form, Venice-USA | Willy Mller, Barcelona | MVRDV, Rotterdam | NO.MAD Arquitectura (Eduardo Arroyo), Madrid | R&Sie.
