The theme for this 2013 Conference – Sea Change: Architecture on the Crest – calls attention to the dynamic, critical times in which we live. Forces of change, both natural and man-made, are shaking the foundations of our communities and stirring questions about our shared future. Global issues such as livability, sustainability, affordability and environmental impact are felt by all, with a particularly strong resonance within the architectural profession. The goal of this conference is to inform, excite, challenge and inspire in order to bring about positive change. It will also serve to underscore the important role that architects can and should play in helping to continue charting the course for successful, sustainable communities.
Taking place from October 23-26, 2013 at the Vancouver Convention Centre West, the conference marks the first partnership between the Architectural Institute of British Columbia and the American Institute of Architecture – Northwest & Pacific Region. With a shared architectural aesthetic common to the Pacific Rim as well as alignment in design directions, community needs and business practices, it is a logical partnership that will generate a conference rich in professional development, dialogue and network-building.
The keynote presenter is Dr. Brian Little, currently a Distinguished Scholar and Director of the Social Ecology Research Group in the Department of Social and Development Psychology at Cambridge University. He is also affiliated with the Well-Being Institute and the Psychometrics Centre at Cambridge.
The conference culminates with the Presidents’ Dinner & Awards Gala on October 25, 2013. This prestigious event announces and celebrates winners of the 2013 AIBC and AIA NW&PR awards programs.
