Save Dominion Modern!

Due to the overwhelming response to Dominion Modern’s (DOMO) recent news about its closure, organizers are reconsidering. Many people have offered their support, donations, expertise and ideas. We all want Domo to survive. So they have decided to take time off to re-evaluate, rethink, reboot, reinvent!

Dominion Modern to Close

In the last few days we have been showcasing the work Dominion Modern (DOMO) has undertaken since 2003. We thought it was a positive note to end on. And so it is with great sadness that we report that Dominion Modern (DOMO) will close. Our current debt load, and declining financial support has made it impossible for us to continue our work.

Dominion Modern was a unique museum dedicated to the promotion and preservation of modern Canadian design and architecture. We regret not being able to establish a permanent home for our museum, something that we were close to fulfilling in current talks. A home was something that we would have hoped to fulfill this year and we regret not being able to continue our work, especially cataloguing our collections of Canadian design and architecture (oral histories, photographic, graphic and industrial design collection).

As a charitable non-profit organization, Dominion Modern carried on for 12 years with no salaried employees, no government funding, with only the efforts of committed volunteers who believed in telling our stories. It is with sincere regret that we are forced to abandon the stories not yet told.

To all our volunteers, our donors and supporters we say thank you! Since 2003 we have recorded, published, catalogued, and exhibited modern Canadian design and architecture. To everyone who has ever supported our work, we say thank you for your faith in this Canadian dream!

Thank you and goodbye!
