Ryerson’s Department of Architectural Science has announced its Fall 2011/Winter 2012 Lecture Series titled “Interventions” which features a variety of internationally recognized architects, artists, urbanists, engineers and technologists. Giancarlo Mazzanti of Bogota, Colombia will be the keynote speaker for the fall series, while Bjarke Ingels of BIG will follow up as the keynote speaker for the winter series.
The fall series includes London’s United Visual Artists (also participating in Nuit Blanche this fall), who present on September 28. Structural innovator Paul Fast of Fast + Epp (design engineers for the Vancouver Olympic Skating Oval) takes the stage on October 13, while Toronto’s Siamak Hariri of Hariri Pontarini Architects, a firm currently working on the award-winning Bahá’i Temple for South America, delivers a lecture on October 27. On November 10, keynote speaker and celebrated architect Giancarlo Mazzanti of Equipo Mazzanti, Bogotá speaks. Mazzanti is renowned for his remarkable 2010 South American Olympic Sports Hall and his sculptural and socially transformative library in the barrio of Santo Domingo, Medellín. Wrapping up the fall series on November 24 is award-winning Toronto documentary photographer Peter MacCallum.
All lectures take place at 6:30pm at the Ryerson University Department of Architectural Science located at 325 Church Street in Toronto.
The winter lectures feature talks by the internationally renowned architect Bjarke Ingels of Copenhagen and New York’s BIG; educator, architect and nanotechnologist Peter Yeadon of New York’s Yeadon Decker LLD and the Rhode Island School of Design; architect and urban ecologist Craig Applegath of Toronto’s DIALOG; and urban designer and architect Renée Daoust of Montreal’s Daoust Lestage Inc., who will deliver the honorary Margery Winkler lecture. Dates and times of the winter series lectures will be announced in the near future.
