Robert Lepage, along with the Québec architecture firms Rayside Labossière Architectes and Guillaume Pelletier Architecte, have been selected as part of the consortium chosen to design the Canadian Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, in Osaka, Japan.

The event, which is set to take place from Apr. 13, 2025, to Oct. 13, 2025, will offer Canada an opportunity to reinforce the economic, cultural, and interpersonal links between Canada and Japan.

Additionally, it aims to be a global collaboration and progress in the context of fulfilling the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Expo’s theme will be “Designing Future Society for Our Lives” and will help create opportunities within Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy and foster closer ties between both nations, exemplified by the upcoming Team Canada Trade Mission to Japan in October 2023.

Over 150 countries and international organizations are expected to participate and up to 28 million visits are anticipated over the six-month event.

On July 6, 2023, Mélanie Joly, Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Mary Ng, Minister of International Trade, Export Promotion, Small Business and Economic Development, declared the contract allocation for designing and constructing the Canada Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai.

Following an open procurement process, ES Global has been granted the contract by Public Services and Procurement Canada, acting on behalf of Global Affairs Canada. As a result, ES Global will lead a consortium made up of a talented Canadian team that includes JKFL Productions, Mirari as the creative team, with Robert Lepage serving as the Artistic Advisor, Soleil Launière, a First Nations Cultural Advisor, Rayside Labossière Architectes and Guillaume Pelletier Architecte.

Together, this team will deliver the Canada Pavilion where visitors will be able to explore the diversity, creativity, and commitment to sustainability that Canada embodies.
