River City 3 named Award of Excellence winner by the CTBUH

The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) has announced the Award of Excellence Winners for the CTBUH 2020 Awards Program.  Saucier + Perrotte Architectes and  ZAS Architects’ River City 3 project  is among  the “Best Tall Building under 100 meters” recipients.

River City 3 is the third phase of a large residential project on the eastern edge of downtown Toronto. The 29-storey condo broke ground in the fall of 2015 in the Corktown area.  Born out of the fluidity of the Don River and the Richmond-Adelaide ramps, the concept of movement has had a major influence on the architectural approach of the complex.

The winning projects represent the best tall buildings, urban contributions, technologies, and innovations emerging recently in cities around the world.

Winners were selected in the Urban Habitat, Renovation, Interior Space, and Construction categories, with projects in the “Best Tall Building” track falling into five height thresholds, and in five sections focused on Engineering achievements.

“This year’s Award of Excellence Winners communicate the diversity of interdisciplinary thought and innovation that will characterize both current and future generations of urban development around the world,” said Best Tall Building Jury Chair Karl Fender, Director at Fender Katsalidis Architects. “These recognitions, bestowed by the world’s premier authority on tall buildings, showcase these projects to a global audience and help drive a meaningful conversation about the quality of our urban environments.”

The CTBUH states that the awards for Innovation, Lifetime Achievement, 2020 CTBUH Fellows and 10 Year Awards will be announced at a later date.

The Award of Excellence Winners will send the owner/developers and design/engineer teams for the projects to the CTBUH 2020 Tall + Urban Innovation Conference to compete in front of an international audience and live juries for “Best in Category” distinctions.

The 2020 Tall + Urban Innovation Conference will take place in Chicago from April 5–7, 2020 at the Radisson Blu Aqua Hotel.
