There will be three streams of sessions in this inter disciplinary conference, focusing on the role of design in education, business and culture. The conference will explore the role of design in the classroom, the marketplace and the museum. Confirmed speakers include Heather Fraser, Director, Business Design Initiatives in the Desautels Centre for Integrative Thinking at the Rotman School of Management, Lenore Richards, Dean of the Faculty of Design at OCAD, Patrick Whitney, Director of the Institute of Design at Illinois Institute of Technology, Yumi Eto, Vancouver-based fashion designer, Douglas Coupland, graduate of the Emily Carr College of Art & Design School, author of numerous books, artist and acclaimed furniture designer, Alexander Manu of OCAD, and Tom Wujec of Alias. This conference is part of an ambitious fall season at the DX. The conference coincides with an all-new exhibit at the DX, which opens Wednesday, October 12th, the first day of the conference. The exhibit By Design is a survey of historical and contemporary design objects in museum collections across Canada. The conference wraps up with the DX’s second annual fundraising gala, the Black and White, on Saturday, October 15th. The theme is “illumination” in celebration of the spirit of creativity and culture.
