RAIC offers free Low Carbon Education training workshop in Whistler, October 3

In an effort to help expedite actions addressing climate change, the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC) is offering a free Low Carbon Education training workshop in Whistler, BC, this fall.
The workshop is set to take place on October 3, 2023, at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler, located at 4599 Chateau Blvd.
Globally, the building sector emerges as a significant contributor to CO2 emissions, accounting for nearly 40 per cent of them, when considering both embodied carbon and operations. This sector also plays a pivotal role in global resource extraction, amounting to roughly 40 per cent while also standing as one of the foremost consumers of chemicals downstream from the chemical industry itself.
Collaborating harmoniously with a diverse range of individuals within the Low Carbon Education Advisory Group and essential experts in relevant fields, the RAIC has crafted a training program that aims to elevate awareness and understanding of low-carbon principles, thereby enhancing the skill set of architects and other members of the architectural community. The curriculum of these workshops covers various competencies necessary to facilitate new constructions and retrofits. It also encompasses foundational knowledge of climate change literacy, climate-responsive design, advocating for transformative change, integrative design thinking, regenerative design practices, equity, diversity, inclusion, as well as Indigenous knowledge.
Central to this initiative is the involvement of ten experts who will lead this architect-specific low carbon workshop. The list of experts includes Mona Lemoine, Kelly Alvarez Doran, Joanne Perdue, Trevor Murdock, Olivia Keung, Kourosh Mahvash, Alanna Quock, Graeme Bristol, Michel Labrie, and Todd Thexton.
This training workshop welcomes architects, interns, technologists, students, and all stakeholders within the architectural realm.
Attendees can expect an experience complete with breakfast, lunch, and refreshment breaks throughout the workshop. However, due to limited space, reserving a spot in advance is advised.
