PULP: Paper Art Party 2014

PULP: Paper Art Party 2014 is an evening combining installation art with live music. This year on April 25, 2014, we’re at The Great Hall, located at 1087 Queen Street West in Toronto. The event will feature The Lemon Bucket Orkestra, the world’s only Balkan-Klezmer-Gypsy-Party-Punk-Super Band. Also playing are DMDP and DJ mo’chi.

The environment is important, but PULP isn’t about lectures or presentations – we want people dancing, talking, playing and creating. Inside a unique two-storey space, artists will introduce guests to sustainable design through reclaimed material installations in an exciting social setting.

PULP is a party, but it’s about more than just partying. PULP is about community and sustainability. That’s why this year, we are using the funds we raise and the expertise of our designers to refurbish Street Haven at the Crossroads, a downtown emergency women’s shelter. We are also happy to have artist Luisa Ayala work with the women at the shelter and make an art installation that will be exhibited at the party.

Over 55 artists and designers have submitted proposals to build 30 installations and furniture out of reclaimed material and create a paper playground in The Great Hall. There will be large-scale paper weaves, a paper chandelier, and a surprising new take on paper cup telephones. The Giant Interactive Comic Book, a crowd favorite from last year’s event, is also coming back with a new graphic tale guests can complete themselves. This year’s party will include featured designs by artist Badanna Zack, Arup+Diamond Schmitt Architects, and Lynch and Comisso Architecture and Light.

A wide range of alcoholic and soft beverages will be available for guests at The Great Hall’s cash bar. Doors open at 9:00pm, and tickets are $30. A limited number of student tickets available at $15.
