In collaboration with the Montreal Public Art Bureau, the Université du Québec à Montréal will present a conference entitled “Public Art: New Territories, New Challenges.” On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Public Art Bureau, this event will bring together Canadian and international experts who will paint a clear picture of the current state of public art practices and the coming tendencies in Canada and around the world.
Speakers include Adrian Blackwell, Assistant Professor at the School of Architecture of the University of Waterloo; Doo Eun Choi, Independent Curator and Visiting Scholar at Parsons – The New School for Design; and David Moinard, Programming Officer of the Projet Estuaire, Nantes.
The conference will conclude with a public presentation by Kirsten Dunne, Senior Cultural Strategy Officer at the Greater London Authority. Dunne manages the public art commission for the famous Fourth Plinth, a British program which engages the general public in the selection process of the artworks that are exhibited in Trafalgar Square in central London.
The conference takes place on Friday, September 19, 2014, from 9:00am to 8:30pm in the Marie-Gérin-Lajoie Room at UQAM’s Judith-Jasmin Pavilion (J-M400), located at 405 Sainte-Catherine Street East in Montreal.
