Danish architect Jorn Utzon, the recipient of the 2003 Pritzker Architecture Prize, will be celebrated in an exhibition of his entire oeuvre at the Louisiana Museum for Modern Art, located in Humlebaek, Denmark, near Copenhagen and running from April 2 to August 29, 2004. Born in 1918, Utzon is perhaps best known for his design of the Sydney Opera House (1957-73) and Kuwait’s National Assembly (1972-82). The exhibition will concentrate on the architect’s working processes and the inspiration behind his designs, emphasizing the relationship between detail and totality in Utzon’s exploitation of the industrial construction process to resolve both human and aesthetic aspects of a new modernist style.
Entitled Jorn Utzon–the Architect’s Universe, the exhibition was created by Utzon and his son, Jan Utzon, using audiovisual and computer-based technology to show never-realized projects as models or 3-D animations, in addition to his recent involvement with the rebuilding of the Sydney Opera House.
