Philosophy Caf: Architectural Briefs
The Philosophy Café is discussion of the books from the Architectural Briefs Series published by Princeton Architectural Press. Led by Bill Johnston, the discussions will be held each month at Shelf Life Books, located at 1302 4th Street SW in Calgary.
The schedule for discussions is as follows:
June 1, 2013 – Ethics for Architects: 50 Dilemmas for Professional Practice by Thomas Fisher
July 6, 2013 – Sustainable Design: A Critical Guide by David Bergman
August 10, 2013 – Digital Fabrications: Architectural and Material Techniques by Lisa Iwamoto
September 7, 2013 – Model Making by Megan Werner
October 5, 2013 – Urban Composition: Creating Community through Urban Design by Mark Childs
November 2, 2013 – Building Envelopes: An Integrated Approach by Jenny Lovell
December 7, 2013 – Philosophy for Architects by Mark Mitrovic
Each book has its own character for references and case studies that can be explored prior to getting together and participants are encouraged to bring your discoveries to the discussion. After the discussion we can adjourn to a wee field trip in the neighbourhood as a follow-up to the topic of the day.
Books will be available from Shelf Life Books a month before the discussion date.
