The Design Exchange (DX) will soon reveal the results of a national call for submissions of designs for the ultimate environmentally friendly home. Entries for the “Archetype for The Living City” are due March 27, 2006, and the results will be on display from April 25 until June 25 at the DX, located at 234 Bay Street, Toronto.
Architects, engineers and designers across Canada were invited to design the ultimate environmentally friendly and affordable home. A panel of judges will select one winning entry which will be constructed at the Kortright Centre and which will serve as a model for new sustainable subdivisions to be developed throughout Southern Ontario.
The exhibit kicks off on April 25 with a public lecture by Peter Busby, an inventive and internationally recognized architect who has been at the forefront of green building design in this country. He has played a leading role in this regard by chairing the Sustainable Building Committee of the Royal Architectural Institute and co-founding the Canada Green Building Council. Additionally, Busby was recently honoured with the Order of Canada.
Throughout the month of May, the public can visit the DX to vote on their People’s Choice. Admission to this exhibit will be free through May in honour of the city’s Festival of Architecture and Design.
On June 21, the DX and its partner the Toronto and Region Conservation will announce the first, second and third place winners, as well as the People’s Choice as determined by public voting.
