Pecha Kucha Architecture + Design Event in London, England
On June 25, 2006 at 7:30pm at London’s Sadler’s Wells Theatre, star names from the worlds of architecture and design will speak at the largest ever Pecha Kucha event.
Thomas Heatherwick, Tom Dixon, Will Alsop, Amanda Levete (Future Systems), Mark Dytham (Klein Dytham Architects), Nigel Coates, Ekow Eshun, Troika, FAT and muf are among the leading architects and designers set to speak at The World’s Biggest Pecha Kucha, as part of the London Architecture Biennale 2006.
Pecha Kucha is the networking and showcasing event that is taking the world by storm and, with an audience of up to 1,500, this will be the largest ever staged. Icon magazine, Max Fraser and the London Architecture Biennale have come together with this one-off event to continue the legacy of the successful Pecha Kucha events held bimonthly in conjunction with The Club at the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) in London.
The event was founded by Klein Dytham Architects (KDA) in Tokyo in 2003. Once a month, KDA stage a Pecha Kucha evening where designers, artists, architects, students and entrepreneurs are invited to present their designs and ideas.
What sets Pecha Kucha apart is the rapid-fire format: 14 speakers are each asked to show 20 images and talk for 20 seconds about each one. This means the audience experiences a huge diversity of speakers in a relatively short space of time. Pecha Kucha acts as a crossroads of ideas, allowing speakers from different disciplines to talk at the same event, thus bringing together creatives who would not normally meet each other. After the presentations, the evening becomes a networking event with drinks and music.
The Pecha Kucha format has spread to other cities in the world, including Berlin, Bern, Glasgow, Groningen, Los Angeles, Rotterdam, San Francisco, Stockholm, and Sydney.
