The Ontario Association of Architects (OAA) is holding its annual conference deLIGHT: architecture’s overlooked third objective at the Westin Ottawa from May 10 to 13, 2006. The occasion also marks the Ottawa Society of Architects’ Centennial.
More than 600 delegates including architects and guests from across the country and throughout North America will be participating in this three-day event focused on design and how beauty impacts our communities. The public interest in design in all aspects of our culture continues to grow…a renewed interest in architecture, urban sprawl, the environment and liveable cities are all hot topics that are instigating societal concern and a rallying cry for creative solutions. What role does the architect play in design?
Architect Lise Anne Couture will be the Opening Keynote Luncheon speaker on Thursday, May 11. Couture is a principal of New York-based Asymptote Architecture which she co-founded with Hani Rashid in 1988. The award-winning firm has an impressive body of work that has placed them at the forefront of architectural design. She will speak about deLIGHT in her work from building, urban design and master planning to interiors, furniture and object design as well as exhibition design and digital installations.
The 2006 OAA Awards Ceremony and Dinner, celebrating the best in the profession, will be hosted by Jeanne Beker of Fashion Television on Friday, May 12.
