Nienkamper Introduces the HAB Collection

Architects Brigitte Shim and Howard Sutcliffe have created Nienkamper’s HAB Chair, a design that translates traditional Muskoka/Adirondack comfort and utility into graceful, modern lines. The HAB Chair emerged from a custom furniture commission for a boathouse residence in Ontario’s Muskoka lakes region by Shum Sutcliffe Architects. An angular steel base supports two versions of the HAB Chairone in veneered molded maple plywood for indoor use, the other in folded aluminum for indoor and outdoor use. Shim and Sutcliffe describe the chair’s lines as “origami-like,” as the seat, back and armrests of the aluminum version are all formed from the same folded sheet of metal. Aluminum HAB Chairs are available in a natural or powder coat finish in a variety of colours. Wood and metal versions of the chair are available with an upholstered back pad in leather, fabric or vinyl. The HAB Collection also includes HAB Tables, which have veneered maple plywood tops and cable-tensioned steel bases that complement the attenuated form of the HAB Chair.
