New interest-free loans in Alberta

A program called “ME! first!” set up by the provincial government in Alberta, which offers $100 million in interest-free loans to municipalities in order to help their operations become more efficient is being enthusiastically endorsed by the Alberta Association of Architects (AAA). Particularly, the AAA’s president, David Down, views the program as a way to create consciousness around designing better buildings in Alberta. The program’s encouragement of green architectural initiatives will help reduce the current estimated 24% of the province’s greenhouse gas emissions from buildings and other structures.
