Resilience (noun): (1) elasticity; (2) toughness.
Heritage builds resilience by rooting identity and sense of place, acting as a catalyst for economic and social regeneration, inspiring imaginative new development, and ensuring sustainability through the reuse of existing infrastructure and the ability to recover from natural disaster or neglect. Inspired by the 150th anniversary of the historic Charlottetown Conference, the National Trust Conference 2014 will explore how heritage builds resilient Canadian communities that can adapt creatively and collaboratively to change. The conference takes place from October 2-4, 2014 at the Confederation Centre of the Arts in Charlottetown, PEI.
Presentations are being sought on the following themes: adaptation and renewal (buildings, districts, craftsmanship and landscapes); community innovation and regeneration; and reinventing the heritage movement presentation.
Accepted formats include: traditional presentation (15-20 minutes); spark presentation (7 minutes); poster presentation; and conference session (90 minutes).
The deadline for submissions is March 24, 2014. Notification of acceptance of abstracts will be made in May 2014. Presenters of accepted abstracts will receive a discount on full conference registration.
