Newport is undergoing tremendous change. One of the fundamental objectives of the regeneration of the City is to reconnect the commercial core with the West Bank of the River Usk. The River itself is a Special Area of Conservation, with mudflats and a tidal range of six metres. Newport Unlimited has completed a master plan with a team led by SOM. The Market Square/Castle Area is identified within the master plan as a priority area for change. Entries will reclaim an area currently dominated by highway, rebalance the built form and the public realm, reconnect the Market Hall to the riverfront, and improve pedestrian circulation along the riverfront.
January 27, 2006 is the deadline for questions; February 23, 2006 is the registration. The submission deadline is March 6, 2006 and the winners will be announced on April 10, 2006.
First prize is 2,500, second prize is 1,500, and third prize is 750. The entry fee is 35 for professionals and 7.50 for students.
