Margolese National Design for Living Prize
The UBC Margolese National Design for Living Prize was created by a generous estate gift made to the University of British Columbia by Leonard Herbert Margolese. The Prize will be awarded to a Canadian who has made outstanding contributions to the development or improvement of living environments for Canadians of all economic classes.
The deadline for submitting nominations for the Prize is October 1, 2013, and one prize will be awarded annually in the amount of $50,000 CAD. The first award was made last year in 2012, and was won by Eric Miller of the University of Toronto.
Nominees must be Canadian citizens still actively making outstanding contributions to the development or improvement of living environments for Canadians of all economic classes. The Prize can only be awarded to a UBC employee once every six years and members of the Advisory Selection Committee are ineligible during their term and in the year following.
The Dean of the Faculty of Applied Science has appointed the Director of the School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture as Chair of the Advisory Selection Committee. The Chair will select, in consultation with the Dean, the members of the committee from nationally and internationally recognized experts in a broad variety of relevant disciplines. The Chair will make every effort to ensure Canada’s broad cultural, ethnic and geographic diversity is represented and that the Committee has reasonable representation of both genders.
Application guidelines for the nominations are available for download at www.sala.ubc.ca/sites/sala.ubc.ca/files/file_attach/margolese-guidelines.pdf.
