The Canadian Eco-Lumber Co-op, a co-operative begun in British Columbia to meet consumer demands while ensuring that ancient forests are conserved, will open later this month. A ceremony to be attended by Dr. David Suzuki and architect Peter Busby will take place in Vancouver’s Yaletown. Products that will be available through the co-op will be made from wood that is either certified by the Forest Stewardship Council as being harvested in an ecologically sustainable manner, or that has been reclaimed from demolished buildings. Some of the wood products available include flooring, doors, plywood, decking, panelling and siding, log home packages and custom home and office furniture. The co-op will assist eco-forestry enterprises including woodlots, community and First Nations forest operations and wood product manufacturers to market their products and provide one-stop shopping for consumers.
