Lemay acquires three Quebec entities from Toronto’s IBI Group
Lemay recently announced the completion of the acquisition of three Quebec entities from Toronto’s IBI Group, which are DAA, Cardinal Hardy Architectes and Martin Marcotte/Architectes. Lemay also announced the creation of a joint venture with IBI Group in China. Moreover, Lemay establishes its presence in the Caribbean with this transaction. Finally, it allows Lemay to become one of Canada’s leading integrated environment design firms.
“[This] announcement exceptionally marks the pursuit of our goal to better serve the growing needs of both our clients and tomorrow’s communities,” said Louis T. Lemay, president and excellence facilitator at Lemay. “Our enhanced multidisciplinary offer enables our clients to benefit from greater creativity, resources, and expertise to develop even more distinctive and innovative business solutions,” explained Lemay.
Consistent with its major projects in Canada, Central America, North Africa, and its newly acquired presence in the Caribbean as well as the strategic Asian market, the transaction announced today will help Lemay reposition itself advantageously within the industry, thanks to its value-added offer.
“We firmly believe that the great complementarity of these combined entities and the quality of our team’s talent, experience, and accomplishments will help the new Lemay become a key player in the industry and a world-class strategic partner. It also provides us a unique opportunity to showcase the incomparable talent and skills of our artisans at the international level and to create wealth in Québec and in Canada,” added Lemay.
With the acquisition of these three entities and the creation of a joint venture in China, Lemay brings together nearly 500 professionals and consolidates its position as the leading firm in integrated design services in Québec and the fourth largest in Canada. At the international level, Lemay now ranks among the top 100 most prestigious firms of its field.
The three entities acquired today from IBI Group are:
• DAA, a multidisciplinary firm specialized in community planning, land development, and urban and regional development. Based in Montreal, DAA has offices in Quebec City and Saguenay. Among its main accomplishments are the master development plans for the Mont-Tremblant Ski Resort and for the Griffintown District, the downtown reconstruction plan for Lac-Mégantic, and the Haiti strategic reconstruction plan targeting the zones devastated by the 2012 earthquake.
• Cardinal Hardy Architectes (CHA), a multidisciplinary firm dedicated to architecture, urban design and landscape, specializing in urban development, residential complexes and airports. Its key accomplishments include Dorchester Square, Cité du multimédia, Bassins du Havre, Montréal Pierre Elliott Trudeau and Québec Jean-Lesage de Québec International Airports, and the overall plan of Université de Montréal’s Outremont Campus.
• Martin Marcotte/Architectes (MMA), a firm that works in the institutional, industrial, commercial, hospital and school sectors. MMA Architectes specializes in the implementation of BIM (Building Information Modelling) technology. A large number of its architects are LEED-certified. Its major accomplishments include the Laval de la Concorde subway station, the Tour des Canadiens and M sur la Montagne condominiums, the Westmount Recreation Center, and several head offices of large market capitalization firms in Quebec.
In addition to these three entities, Lemay will also be counting on a strong team in China. With offices established in Beijing and Shanghai more than a decade ago, and a team of more than 60 professionals, the firm now co-owned by Lemay will be responsible for promoting Canadian and Québec creativity across the Asian market.
From now until the brand architecture of the new Lemay is elaborated, the three acquired entities will operate respectively under the names Lemay+DAA, Lemay+CHA and Lemay+MMA. The name of the joint venture in China will be announced soon.
