Jason King Associates has been awarded a second prize and two honourable mentions in the Sky Office International Design Competition sponsored by Upper S.p.A. and Newitalianblood.com. The competition solicited designs for systems and spatial configurations for the office of the future, to be situated in six famous skyscrapers around the world. Jason King Associates was the only group to be a finalist in three of the six selections. Their designs created a new “work style” through a bold synthesis of human factors research, new technologies and mutable architectural systems.
Members of the design jury included internationally recognized architects, designers, curators and critics such as Terence Riley, Architecture Curator, MoMA; Ole Bouman, Director, Archis Magazine; Nobuyuki Yoshida, Editor, A + U; Toni Montes, Critic, Quaderns Magazine; and designer Mario Bellini among others. Principal Jason King along with many other winners were honoured at an award ceremony and exhibition on June 24, 2005 in Ancona, Italy. The projects and research by Jason King Associates were also selected for exhibition at the International Union of Architects XXII World Congress in Istanbul from July 3-10, 2005.
Jason King Associates is a multi-disciplinary architecture and design firm specializing in the integration of architecture with media and technology. Now based in New York, King received his Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Toronto, and taught architectural design at the University of British Columbia. Recent projects include first prize in the Ufficio Ideale competition for the Government of Italy, an interactive shopping centre for Jusco Japan and a technologically immersive environment for IBM. Principal Jason King is currently an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Barnard College + Columbia University. His work has been published in numerous books and magazines, and most recently in the May 2005 issue of Canadian Architect. He has received numerous awards for his design work in architecture which include the Canada Council Arts Grant in Architecture, I.D. Magazine’s Design Distinction Award, and AIA Honor Award and the Canada Council’s most prestigious award in architecture, the Prix de Rome in 2000.
