International Competition for the Guadalajara Public Library
The University of Guadalajara and the municipality of Zapopan through the University of Guadalajara’s Cultural Center Trust announces the International Ideas and Conceptual Architectural Project for a Library Competition.
The general objective is to provide Guadalajara’s metropolitan area and the state of Jalisco a new public library. The library should have the capacity for more than 2,000,000 volumes and the capability to host 3,600 users, thus creating a research and reading space devoted to the general public and to specialist researchers.
Registration deadline for this competition is February 4 and the submission deadline is April 25. The entry fee is $200 USD and the competition is open to licensed architects worldwide. The award is over 1,000,000 Mexican pesos (approximately 90,000 USD and 70,000 EUR) along with the design commission and development contract. The four runners-up will each receive 170,000 Mexican pesos (or equivalent), an honorary mention and a participation certificate. The jury includes Alvaro Siza, Ricardo Legorreta, Jos Luis Corts and Robert Campbell.
