Interior Design Show 2015 opens next week at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre

With just days until the Interior Design Show takes over Toronto’s Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Canada’s design event of the year promises a jam-packed schedule of features and events.

Kicking off the festivities is the Opening Night Party presented by Scavolini and The Globe and Mail. On Thursday, January 22 from 7:00pm to 11:00pm, join more than 5,500 of the most influential designers and industry notables for the IDS15 Opening Night Party—Canada’s biggest design party. Don’t miss the chance to rub shoulders with international stars. Tickets are $56 in advance at www.interiordesignshow.com or $61 on site at the IKEA Ticket Centre. A portion of the proceeds supports Habitat for Humanity Canada.

Leading designer Del Terrelonge of multidisciplinary design firm rhed will present the second IDS15 feature exhibit called Carbonless that examines the future of living through transformable design with a mobile architecture concept. Carbonless illustrates the ability to live off the grid with a mobile style modern camper incorporating all of the comforts found in modern society, while remaining environmentally responsible. Don’t forget to visit IDS15’s other feature exhibit called CUBITAT by Urban Capital, an innovative example of plug-and-play architecture.

Discover the design talent of the Great White North! Always a fan favourite, Studio North & Prototype highlights emerging Canadian designers and independent studios. A curated celebration of locally made products, the groundbreaking design on show includes Talia Silva’s organic-yet-otherworldly pendants and Renée Struthers’s simple concrete creations.

Back by popular demand, designboom mart is a design bazaar featuring more than 30 designers from around the world including: Joe Jin, Kumvana Gomani, Mier Luo, Little Factory, Khaled Mays, Ritoon Design and Lola’s Vanity. Attendees will have the chance to purchase unique designs directly on the show floor: jewelry and accessories to home accents and small furnishings are availble at an affordable price

Presented by Rimowa and Selene Furniture, the Ultimate Airport Lounge combines the luxury luggage of Europe’s leading manufacturer Rimowa with the superior Italian designs of Selene Furniture, featuring designs by Presotto.

New to the design fair, IDS is pleased to present Maker, featuring the works of four artisanal North American design stars who produce their work in small batches with limited distribution. View the inimitable makings of Heidi Earnshaw, Peter Coolican, 1925Workbench and Miles & May, ”makers” who combine traditional craftsmanship with modern aesthetics.

Rounding out the special features is a seminar schedule and an impressive roster of international guest speakers that includes architect Marlon Blackwell, and designers Sebastian Herkner, Jonathan Adler, Alexa Hampton and Thom Filicia.
