Epidemic or Opportunity: Mountain Pine Beetle Designs exhibition

As the Mountain Pine Beetle (MPB) ravages British Columbia forests, the forestry sector is being forced to harvest this wood in a timely manner, or lose it altogether. With science proving that the wood is usable in numerous applications, design professionals are being engaged by dv: the urban living expo, along with the AIBC, IDIBC, and BC Wood to find new market opportunities for this blue-stained MPB wood. Eight design professionals were hand-selected; they then designed and built consumer facing, or architectural application projects with supplied MPB wood.

The featured designers are: Abdel Munem Amin (Abbarch Partnership Architects) & David Tseng; Brent Comber Originals; Francis Lemieux; Gereb Design Inc; Omicron Architecture & Engineering; Rainier Design Studio; Simon Litherland; and Straight Line Designs.

This exhibition runs from June 7 to July 6, 2007 at the Architecture Centre Gallery, 100-440 Cambie Street in Vancouver, BC.
