HBSA Awards celebrate best of Hamilton & Burlington design

The Hamilton-Burlington Society of Architects presented twelve awards recognizing excellence or merit in the design of buildings and projects by Hamilton and Burlington based architects at the HBSA Celebrates event at the RBG Thursday November 15.

The jury of design professionals reviewed 25 submissions and recognized talent in a diverse range of projects. Dpai architecture’s new digital canopy for Theatre Aquarius was recognized for reinvigorating King William Street and giving the theatre and bold new presence. Rick Lintack Architects were recognized for their skill in sensitively renovating and connecting three heritage buildings on James Street North as “The Alley” development for Core Urban. The technical skill and achievement of mcCallumSather and B+H Architects in completing the first net zero building in the country, The Joyce Centre for Partnership and Innovation at Mohawk College was celebrated. Beautifully detailed and sited designs such as the new Binbrook Library by Invizij Architects and The Millgrove House by Toms + McNally Design were recognized among others.

The members of the HBSA also presented the HBSA Citizen Advocate Award to local journalist and activist Kathy Renwald recognizing her decades of advocacy for local architecture and design. She is a keen observer and sometime critic of Hamilton’s urban landscape, but always remains a fan of our rich, diverse city. “With her attention to detail, she has a knack for elevating the ordinary, everyday objects of someone’s home to meaningful, curated treasures,” said Esther Link, Architect with TCA/Their Curran.
