Glenn Murcutt delivers keynote at Cersaie in Bologna, Italy
This year, Cersaie is expected to attract 900 exhibitors from 30+ countries, and 100,000 visitors. The show will continue to host expanded categories of interior and exterior floor and wall covering materials including marble, natural stone, wood and laminate. Cersaie’s conference and seminar series, Building, Dwelling, Thinking, will feature the usual high calibre of industry speakers, with this year’s keynote given by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Glenn Murcutt, who is regarded as Australia’s most famous architect.
Internationally acclaimed Australian architect Glenn Murcutt (born in London, 1936) received the Pritzker Architecture Prize in 2002. He and his work have also been recognized with numerous other awards including the Alvar Aalto Medal in 1992, the Green Pin of Denmark for Architecture and Ecology in 1999, and the Gold Medal of the American Institute of Architects in 2009. Furthermore, he is an honorary member of the Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland and the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
Murcutt studied architecture at the Sydney Technical College of the University of New South Wales. In 1969, he established his own firm. Since then—while undertaking all the design-related tasks himself—he has created an impressive oeuvre of environmentally conscious buildings of exceptional quality and vision.
Murcutt has shared his vision with countless students around the world. He holds a professorship at the University of New South Wales, and has been a visiting professor at schools such as Yale University, University of Pennsylvania, Helsinki University of Technology, Aarhus University, and many others.
Other speakers scheduled for the duration of Cersaie include Matthias Sauerbruch of Sauerbruch Hutton in Berlin, Spanish architect and critic Arturo Franco, Italian architect and professor Fulvio Irace, and Markus Bader, principal of experimental architecture practice raumlaborberlin.

On September 28th, Cersaie’s international press conference and opening party will be held in the ceramic hub of Sassuolo at the historic and stunning Palazzo Ducale.
*On October 1st, Cersaie will highlight Raumlabor Berlin’s experimental architectural practice with a presentation/discussion from Markus Bader of the firm and Fulvio Irace from the Milan Polytechnic.
*The Cer-Stile collective exhibition, specially created by Angelo Dall’Aglio and Davide Vercelli for this year’s Cersaie, will be dedicated to creative renovations of typical Italian landscapes. Nature will be reinvented with the addition of commercial and hospitality spaces that will showcase Italian products in a Mountain Pavilion and a Sea Pavilion structure.
*The 2015 Tiling Town takes place in the centre of the exhibition hall, and will feature a greater engagement by Assoposa who will work with the “Master Tilers” to feature techniques in installation and laying of tiles including large formats, thin formats, interior applications, and exterior applications.
