This summer, FUSE, the Vancouver Art Gallery’s eclectic night of art, music and performance, will feature some of the most original programming the city has to offer. Taking place at Robson Square the fourth Friday of every month, FUSE kicks off a new season on May 26th with a sneak peak at Arthur Erickson: Critical Works, unique musical performances, sound poetry jam sessions and a tea party with a twist. Add music and drinks in the FUSE Lounge and live music on the Gallery Caf’s see-and-be-seen patio for the perfect Friday night out.
On May 26th, FUSE-goers will be the first to experience Arthur Erickson: Critical Works, opening to the public the following day. This landmark exhibition explores the landscape, public space and social values of design concepts that have made Erickson a Canadian icon.
In the Gallery Rotunda, Vivienne Wang will conduct TYPE ATaipei, a dynamic musical composition featuring eleven musicians improvising with karaoke machines, Asian string instruments and unique pre-recorded sounds. The Contact Zone Crew will spin sound poetry in the Gallery, mixing together audio samples from such diverse sources as Margaret Atwood and DJ Shadow. In the Gallery’s forecourt, the World Tea Party will be on site with a massive mobile tea trolley to serve cups of brew from a self-contained serving facility on wheels.
The remainder of spring and summer will present a plethora of FUSE entertainment, including traditional Haida dancing performed by the renowned Rainbow Creek Dancers, a gravity-defying performance by Vancouver’s high-flying Aeriosa troupe, flashlight tours of Robson Square, a chance for FUSE-goers to rock the FUSE Lounge with mp3 players and an art rock concert featuring local bands The Book of Lists, The Battles and Sinoia Cave.
FUSE tickets are $10 per person, $5 off the regular adult admission price. Members of the Vancouver Art Gallery receive free admission.
