Faces in the Wild: design and artwork call for entries to benefit World Wildlife Fund
Humanscale’s 6th Annual Competition and Auction to benefit World Wildlife Fund – Faces in the Wild – is on its way! Last year’s event brought over 300 attendees and earned more than $24,000 for WWF, including a matching donation by Humanscale. Having already raised over $150,000, each year there is more interest, excitement and exposure for this event. Expectations are high for 2005!
Designers are requested to submit artwork of any type – including sculpture, painting, drawing, photography, mask or woven design – representing the face of a non-domesticated animal. All artwork submissions will be offered in an auction at the Humanscale Showroom in early October 2005. A select number of pieces will also be included in an online "preview" auction prior to the event. All funds collected will be matched by Humanscale and donated directly to WWF.
Attendees of the live auction will include supporters of World Wildlife Fund in and around New York City, members of the architecture and design community, facility managers, press and upscale consumers from the New York Metro area.
By creating and donating your Faces in the Wild artwork, you will help support WWF, the leading environmental organization dedicated to protecting the diversity of life on planet Earth. All entries must be:
*tangible: printed matter, painted matter, photography, sculpture, etc. (electronic entries cannot be accepted)
*easily transportable
*made from environmentally friendly, non-perishable materials
*representative of the face of a non-domesticated animal
In addition to the auction, all entries will be judged by a distinguished panel representing a wide range of design disciplines. Winners will be selected in each of the following categories:
*Best Use of Environmental Materials
*Best Representation of the Essence of the Animal (personality, presence, look)
*Best Overall Design
The top vote-getters in each category will receive Humanscale’s award-winning Liberty chair, designed by Niels Diffrient. Winners will be announced prior to the auction at the Humanscale Showroom.
If you would like to participate in this event by designing and donating a piece of artwork for Faces in the Wild, please contact Karen Brooking at 212.353.1383 or [email protected] Due to space limitations, we must limit the number of entries to a maximum of 100. In order for your entry to be considered for the online "preview" auction, it must be received by Friday, September 9, 2005. The auction will take place on Humanscale’s website at www.humanscale.com. The final deadline for all entries is Friday, September 16, 2005.
