Summary:

The real estate and land use development story in the Toronto Region over the past decade has seen a dramatic shift of focus from the suburban to the hyper-urban. But as cities in the region become increasingly interconnected and the boundaries between built form, mobility, and technology become blurred, a new dialogue about city building is beginning to emerge.

To address some of the latest ideas and predictions, the Toronto Chapter of Urban Land Institute (ULI) is bringing together prominent voices from across different sectors in Canada and the United States, to share insights and expertise at ULI Toronto’s inaugural Fall Symposium, Emerging Trends and City Building. Discussions with real estate, development, technology, business, and academic professionals will focus on how buildings, mobility options and digital technologies are shaping mixed-use intensification and quality of life in both urban and suburban centres.

Leveraging ULI’s robust network of global thought leaders, some of the influential guest panelists and keynote speakers include:

  • Andrew Warren, Director, Real Estate Research at PricewaterhouseCoopers
  • Ellen Dunham-Jones, Professor, School of Architecture at Georgia Institute of Technology, TED Talk speaker and author of Retrofitting Suburbia: Urban Design Solutions for Redesigning Suburbs
  • Ian Black, General Manager of Uber Canada
  • Aseem Inam, Founder and Director of TRULAB: Laboratory for Designing Urban Transformation and a distinguished visiting Professor at the University of Toronto
  • Richard Florida, Director of the Martin Prosperity Institute at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management, and Co-Founder and Editor-at-large at The Atlantic’s CityLab
  • Jennifer Keesmaat, Chief Planner and Executive Director, City of Toronto
