City Building Lecture Series – Stephen Teeple
On March 31, Stephen Teeple of Toronto-based Teeple Architects will be speaking about his firm’s recent projects.
In partnership with the Art Gallery of Alberta, the City of Edmonton, and Athabasca University, MADE is presenting a lecture series featuring the architects behind the buildings which are transforming the architectural discussion in Edmonton.
Stephen Teeple is a graduate of the University of Waterloo and Columbia University. He is a Fellow of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada and a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts. Stephen established Teeple Architects Inc. in 1989 and in the intervening years has been awarded significant honours for his contribution to Canadian architecture. His current work explores the cultural dimension of sustainability in design — research that formulates a provocation for rethinking the art of architecture. Environmentally conscious design is an integral consideration in the formulation of the architectural idea of each project as well as the spatial experience embodied in the completed work. Stephen has extensive teaching experience and is recognized as a prominent architectural critic.
His recent design work ranges in complexity from large-scale institutional projects to finely detailed interiors. His work has exemplified the tradition with sensitive and personal responses to site, landscape and programme. Recent projects include Stanley A. Milner Library Renewal, Clareview Recreation Centre and Branch Library, The Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum in Wembley, Alberta, a new Library/Classroom Building at Langara College in Vancouver; the Science Complex at Trent University, Peterborough; the Scarborough Chinese Baptist Church; renovations to the Perimeter Institute in Waterloo; and the Georgian College Health and Wellness Centre in Barrie, Ontario.
Doors open at 6:30pm, Lecture begins at 7pm.
