Emerging Calgary architects invited to present Calgary flood strategies at international conference and exhibition
Jessie Andjelic and Philip Vandermey, partners of the emerging architecture firm SPECTACLE and sessional instructors at the University of Calgary Master of Architecture program, have been invited to exhibit flood mitigation strategies at the University of Cambridge in the UK on March 17 and 18 at a conference entitled Urban Emergencies : Emergent Urbanism.
Beyond focusing on a functional agenda of how to keep water out, the work uses surrealistic strategies to explore fundamental urban issues that Calgary’s major flood in 2013 revealed at multiple scales. Delugional Calgary—the title of the exhibition and presentation content—will include six case-study projects and research on the 2013 floods and the flood history of Calgary.
SPECTACLE Bureau for Architecture and Urbanism is an internationally oriented architecture office, based in Calgary, working across the fields of architecture, urbanism, landscape and object design.
