DX Salon Nights: In Conversation

On Thursday, December 8, 2011, the Design Exchange in Toronto hosts another of its Salon Nights, this time featuring interviewer Department of Unusual Certainties, a Toronto-based research and design collective working at the interstices of urban design, planning, public art, spatial research and mapping. The Department’s work is informed by one guiding philosophy – that the city is the physical manifestation of a long sequence of unusual certainties, each one simultaneously more unusual and yet more certain than its predecessor.

The interviewee at this Salon Night is Broken City Lab, an artist-led interdisciplinary creative research collective and non-profit organization working to explore and unfold curiosities around locality, infrastructures, and creative practice leading towards civic change. Broken City Lab’s creative activity is rooted in community-based social practice, where the lab attempts to generate a new dialogue surrounding public participation and community engagement in the creative process, with a focus on the city as both a research site and workspace.

All Salon Nights take place from 6:30pm to 7:30pm at the Design Exchange , located at 234 Bay Street in Toronto.
